Summer’s Last Hoorah!
Summer is starting to wain, but around here, garden-fresh veggies are still abundant. If you’re growing them in your garden, visiting a local farm stand, or just buying them at your local grocery store, everything looks so fresh and delicious this time of year. This creamy twist on ranch dressing will add a little something special to your next salad. Creamy Herb Miso Dressing is a tasty way to turn up the volume on your usual ranchy favorite. This is Asian style ranch dressing. Hey, it’s also great as a tasty twist for your dipping pleasure. Wonderful on your veggie platter or……let’s be real, with chips too!
I love using miso in so many different recipes. It adds an earthy, tangy, and salty flavor. You can find it at your local grocery store in the refrigerated section, likely near the salad dressings. White miso is the most mellow tasting. It is simply fermented bean paste.
Another great feature of miso is it will last a long time in your refrigerator. As you get used to cooking with it, you’ll find plenty of ways to use this ingredient. Here are a few of my favorites:

The Dressing Dilema
Are you one of those people (like me) that has an entire rack of their precious refrigerator real estate space devoted to various kinds of salad dressings? Well, there’s only one thing I like about store bought dressings, they’re convenient. You know why they seem to last forever in the fridge? Look at the ingredients. It’s like a science project. I’m really trying to move away from all the preservatives and replacing whenever I can with what makes the most sense. Fresh is always best. Making your own salad dressing does take a little time, but it’s well worth the effort.
Creamy Herb Miso Dressing is great on a big ‘ol mixed veggie salad or any substantial salad. It’s also great for a veggie platter as a dip. This one’s not for the lighter lettuces, like butter.
Creamy Herb Miso Dressing
Into a medium-sized bowl, add 1/3 cup whole or non-fat Greek yogurt, 1/3 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup buttermilk and 3 tablespoons white miso Paste, 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard and 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar. Mix well to combine. (If you are making this as a dip for vegetables, use only 1/3 cup buttermilk.)
I used my favorite combination of fresh herbs, but you can mix it up with your favorite herbs, as long as they are fresh. Add some fresh celery leaves as well. I can’t believe I spent so many years throwing out the celery leaves! They’re full of the best celery flavor and add so much freshness to everything you use celery in.
Add 3 tablespoons finely chopped chives 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley, 1 tablespoon finely chopped dill and 1 tablespoon finely chopped basil. Next, add 1 very finely minced clove of garlic with the zest of 1 lemon and 1 tablespoon of the juice. Season to taste with cayenne pepper, I suggest 1/8 teaspoon to start. Mix it up well and chill.
Serve tossed with your favorite salad or, as a dip for vegetables.
Enjoy!
