πSlainte!π₯
I suppose we are all Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be for such a grand celebration π . In the spirit of the day, I bring you my own glass of cheer π₯. It’s a simple, but always delicious Irish Old Fashioned Cocktail. This one is made with Irish Whiskey and garnished with bit of real gold π°π.
Every year for as long as I can remember, we’ve celebrated this day with the traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage, with onions and plenty of rye bread too. We’d always finish the meal with a perfect Irish Coffee. I learned to make mine from my Aunt Esther. To get the recipe, here’s a link https://wp.me/p9KEfL-j
This year, it’s directly to Happy Hour with this Irish Old Fashioned Cocktailππ₯. Care to join me? Here’s the Irish How-To!
Irish Old Fashioned Cocktail π
Brown sugar simple syrup is the sweetener in this cocktail. To make it, just simmer equal parts brown sugar and water. Let the mixture simmer just until the sugar has completely dissolved. Cool completely then keep to chill in a covered container in the refrigerator. You can keep this for 2-3 weeks.
For the Cocktail π
Into a rock glass, add 1/4 ounce of brown sugar simple syrup. Top with 3 dashes of Angostura bitters and 2 dashes of orange bitters. Mix with a spoon. Add a giant ice cube, or the biggest one you can use. Top with 2 ounces of your favorite Irish whiskey. Stir the cocktail for about 30 seconds, diluting some of the ice into the drink.
Garnish with a orange peel and top the ice cube with a twisted piece of edible gold.
(You can get edible gold leaf at craft stores or order it from Amazon. Here’s a link to the Amazon product: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71cy2BzS9jL._SX522_.jpg
