A Crafty Little 🍸Tipple
Have you ever had an Oliveto Cocktail? I like to try Cocktail recipes, then share the ones I love with you because I’m a giver😉. My desire is to find and share cocktails 🍸 that aren’t too complicated but still fun to mix and try at home. This lovely tipple is so creamy and lemony 🍋! It’s like sipping a lemon meringue pie 🥧. But booze 😁 A Boozy Lemon Meringue Pie!
So many of the outrageous and still surprisingly delicious craft cocktails that are so popular these days are almost impossible to make at home. The ingredients become complicated 🤫 and expensive 💵 if you’re just giving them a go in your own home bar or kitchen. Try this Oliveto Cocktail because it’s unbelievably delicious! There’s a reason it won a “Best of” award a number of years ago.
When I came across this one, I had to try it 🤔 It contains a few of my favorite ingredients. One is Liquor 43. Its one of those liqueurs I say you should have at home. So many delicious drinks come from this blend of orange 🍊, vanilla and spices. It’s also in this little tipple that was noted as “Best of 2012”. Invented at the Marvel Bar in Minnesota.
What’s That?!?
Adding a bit of olive oil to a cocktail, especially one with an egg white creates a silky and incredibly creamy sensation in your mouth. The drink is really delicious and you don’t taste the olive oil or the egg white. The flavors and the “mouth feel” of this drink are out of this world, really!
I was freaking out about adding olive oil to my cocktail. That’s actually funny when I realized there’s only about 50 calories in this 1/2 ounce. When I compared to other additions in many of my cocktail recipes like cream. Plus EVOO is the good fat!😁
The Oliveto Cocktail Recipe
Into a cocktail shaker, add 4 large ice cubes. Top with 2 ounces gin, 1 ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Next add 1/4 ounce each of simple syrup and liquor 43. Add 1/2 ounce of good quality extra virgin olive oil and 1 egg white. Shake the vigorously until the ice cubes have all but completely melted into the drink. Pour into a stemless wine glass or rocks glass. Garnish with a lemon peel and Bob’s Your Uncle!
Cheers!
Notes
To make citrus oleo saccharum:
You want to impart as much of the flavor from the zest only, leaving as much of the white pith behind. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the skin from 2 lemons, 2 oranges and 1 grapefruit. Put the zest/peel into a shallow bowl or glass pie plate. Cover with 1 cup of granulated sugar. Give a light rub to the fruit and sugar, then let it sit for about 24 hours.
Next, add 1 cup of warm water to the dish and let it sit until all the sugar has dissolved. Help it along with a little stir if necessary. Strain the liquid into a jar, seal. Discard the peel.
