Are You In A Happy Hour Rut? 🍻🍹🍾🥂🍷
For a million years, I was in a “wine got me” only rut. Now, I’m not saying I don’t love a chilled glass of chardonnay or a delicious, lip smacking glass of 🍷Pinot Noir from time to time (hello, have we met?) ……….but It’s fun to make a classic or specialty cocktail every now and again too. Here’s one that’s perfect for fall🍁. Next time you’re entertaining, why not shake things up? I mean, shake it up literally and serve a seasonal and fun cocktail. This one fills that bill.
Make It, Shake It – Bourbon Fig Sour Cocktail!
Into your cocktail shaker, add two sliced fresh figs and 2 teaspoons of honey, then muddle until they are as smashed as you can get them. If you don’t have fresh figs, you can substitute the honey and the fresh figs for a tablespoon of fig jam.
Next, add 1 1/2 ounces of fresh lemon juice, 2 teaspoons of honey and 1 1/2 ounces of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add 2 ounces of your favorite bourbon, 1-2 dashes of Angostura bitters and 1 egg white. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. (No ice at this point, this is a “dry-shake”.)
Add ice and shake again, for another 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish top with a few drops of bitters and a slice of fig.
A Note About egg whites
Egg whites are what gives this and other cocktails their silky feel. They add that beautiful froth to the top of the drink. It’s been shown that the egg white is not typically the cause of food born illness, but if you are not comfortable using raw egg whites, there is no substitute. Just leave it out.
Cheers!
