Tiki Time
โฉ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐
I just finished the book, โCrazy Rich Asiansโ and by the end, I was really in the mood for the perfect tiki drink to keep the vibe alive! How long has it been since you heard someone order a ๐บ Singapore Sling Cocktail?
The book is kind of fun, filled with over the top excess, which I am quite a big fan of! I’m very experienced at frugal, so when I watch a movie or read a book, I like to go to the other side! And these Asians are Crazy Freaking Rich! I can say that the whole social pedigree thing can get pretty tiring. I really do pray that in real life, what matters is your integrity, not the wealth of your family. I’m curious if in reality that matters to anyone anymore……..or, am I out of touch? Actually, if it is true, it’ pretty unimportant in my world anyway. But don’t get me wrong, I think it would be crazy fun to be crazy rich!
The original Singapore Sling was famously created in 1915 at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. The bartender, Ngiam Ton Boon invented the drink and kept it secret, under lock in a safe. Originally created to be a ladies drink, ‘cuz apparently, we ladies only drank pretty ๐ pink stuff back then.
In the book, the characters think they are going to the original Raffles Bar in Singapore to enjoy one, but instead, they are taken to a lavish rooftop bar under a lighted canopy with views of forever. Doesn’t that sound fantastic? I would have one of these there or actually anywhere! Read the book, then make a delicious ๐น Singapore Sling! Here’s how you make it!
The Singapore Sling Cocktail
I’m keeping this recipe pretty close to the original, although I did find an awful lot of โoriginal versionsโ. Does the original have soda water or not? Make it the way you like best! I did like the sparkling water topper, by the way!
Fill a cocktail glass such as a hurricane glass or Collins glass with ice and let it sit while you make the drink. Into a cocktail shaker, filled 1/2 with ice, add 1 1/2 ounces of gin, 3/4 ounces of B&B.
I am using B&B because I have enough B&B at home to serve Singapore Slings to half of the worlds population! B&B Is a delicious after dinner liqueur, try it if you have some. B&B is a liqueur which is 1/2 brandy and 1/2 Benedictine. (If you have ๐ cherry brandy or regular brandy and Benedictine, substitute 1/2 ounce Benedictine and 1/4 ounce brandy or cherry brandy or liqueur for B&B).
Add 1/4 ounce ๐orange liqueur, such as Grand Marnier and 4 ounces of unsweetened ๐ pineapple juice, 1/2 ounce of freshly squeezed ๐ lime juice, 1/3 ounce grenadine syrup and 1/4 ounce cherry syrup from the Luxardo cherries or cherry liqueur (such as Heering or Luxardo) or cherry brandy, 1 dash Angostura bitters. Shake until chilled, about 25 seconds. Strain into your cocktail glass. If you like, top with sparkling or soda water. Garnish with a ๐pineapple wedge and a ๐ maraschino cherry. Cheers to Nick and Rachel!
