Another 🍒Cherry Bomb!
I know I’m on a real cherry roll! I thought it was going to be watermelon week but cherries got me like…………..But, since I have the cherry bug, here’s a easy-peazzzy boozy cherries recipe!
Last year I made a ton of canned stuff with my gorgeous peach tree offerings. One of my favorites was my bourbon soaked peaches. But, let me tell you what I learned the hard way. The canning process cooked out 100% of the bourbon flavor. Seriously, an entire jug of bourbon, countless vanilla beans plus all the effort. Before canning, when I tried it, it tasted like the most heavenly stuff on earth. Months later when I actually tried one (not just the cooked stuff before preserving) nothing. Just a sweet vanilla sauce with peaches. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that, but not what this bourbon lover anticipated at all!
Lesson learned! So for this version, no canning! Here’s how I made these boozy little gems. I can’t wait to use them on top of my “Old Fashioned, Old-Fashioned Cupcakes” I will put that recipe out very soon! But for now, here’s the cherry on top of the cake! (Or the cocktail) 🍒🍊🥃
No Preserving Necessary
Why? Because I have no intention of taking these out of the fridge! They will last for 6 months. But who’s kidding who? These will never make it past a week around here!
Wash your cherries. I want mine to be pretty, edible garnish, so I am leaving the stem attached. To pit, just make a careful whole in the bottom of the cherry and remove the pit as carefully as possible. Or, you can do what I am doing with these, I’m serving them on top with the pit 🙂
Boozy Cherries
Add the cherries to a 16 oz canning jar or use a jar you’ve emptied from another use, clean it super well to be sure there’s no leftover scent of anything strong, like garlic! Fill the jar half way with bourbon. In a small sauce pan over medium heat add 1/2 cup bourbon and 1/4 cup sugar. Heat until slow simmer and remove from the heat. Swirl the pan slowly to help the sugar fully dissolve. Add the peel from one small orange. Let the mixture cool completely. Pour on top of the contents of the jar with the cherries, and Bob’s your uncle!
Refrigerate until ready to use. Cheers!
